Breathe God
I have been guilty of misunderstanding life, and the purpose and truth of life. We were created for relationship with God and for His pleasure. We were not created for anything else!
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.
Colossians 1:16
You created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being.
Revelation 4:11
It is so easy to put "Christianity" in a box, to live our lives and make time for God as if He is separate from the rest of our lives. The worst case scenario is when we designate our time with God to Sunday mornings only, but this is not what I am speaking of. What I am speaking of is the phenomenon of living our lives separate from our relationship with God.
We were created to be in relationship with God. What makes us think it is okay to have attitudes such as:
I'll pray when I'm not too tired.
It’s time for work, I'll think about God later.
Weekdays are filled with everything on my "to do" list. I can't possibly fit God in with that.
My personal relationships, my spouse, boyfriend, children, friends, co-workers have nothing to do with God other than praying for them.
I'll listen to my regular music now. I'll listen to my Christian music when I am thinking about God or need something from Him.
We can forget that God is with us all the time, 24/7. His Spirit lives on the inside of us. We can't be any closer to someone than that! When we're vacuuming, why not hum songs of praise as we go? When we are in the shower, why not thank God for the blessing of hot water? When we are standing in line at the store, why can't we pray to bless the people in front of us who are taking up all of our "precious time" with their price checks, coupons, and out-of-control children? When we put on our coats, praise God! When we eat dinner, praise God! When we sit down in front of the TV, praise God!
Let us live for our relationships with God, breathing Him in every waking hour. Let us not have the attitude that "This is my life, and oh yeah, I'm also a Christian."
"Pray continually."
