The Ugliness of Sin
The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."
Genesis 2:15-18
For the wages of sin is death...
Romans 6:23
I was deep in thought one day regarding these scriptures. I thought, I wonder what the connection between sin and death really is?
I then saw a vision of a corpse in my mind.
A rotting, stinking, filthy, frightening dead body.
If you dare, look at this picture here. It's not real, but you get the point.
Is that not the most offensive sight to us?
Can you think of something uglier?
Can you think of something more upsetting?
Is there anything that scares you more than that?
I believe that our sin is that offensive, ugly, and upsetting to God.
I believe that is why He chose our bodies to decay in this way.
Our sin separates us from God. God is Perfect and Good.
Our sin goes against God's perfect and good nature.
Our sin is the opposite of God.
Death is the opposite of life.
I believe that a rotting corpse is so offensive to us because it is the tangible evidence of our fall, our separation from God, our choice to turn from our Life-Giver.
I believe a corpse is "The Ugliness of Sin" incarnate.
Thank you, Jesus, for delivering us from ourselves
and our foolish choice to turn from our loving, caring, perfect Father.
